PLATEAU STATE GOVERNOR IMPOSES 24-HOUR CURFEW ON JOS/BUKURU METROPOLIS

In a decisive effort to bolster security and maintain public order, Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has announced a 24-hour curfew for Jos/Bukuru Metropolis, effective from midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

Governor Mutfwang, after consultations with state security agencies, made this move in response to recent disturbances caused by individuals exploiting the nationwide protests to perpetrate violence. These perpetrators, armed with daggers, machetes, and other weapons, engaged in looting activities, targeting shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction.

The governor stressed that the curfew is crucial for the safety and well-being of residents and urged full compliance. He has directed security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly across the affected areas.

Governor Mutfwang warned that any further attempts to incite violence would be met with stringent legal action and called on security forces to remain vigilant and proactive to prevent any potential disruptions.

He also expressed appreciation to the citizens, especially the clergy and imams, for their steadfast support and adherence to government directives during the protests. Governor Mutfwang praised their commitment to peace and unity and encouraged everyone to continue fostering this culture.

"This curfew is a necessary measure to safeguard our community, and I trust that everyone will adhere to it in the interest of public safety," Governor Mutfwang concluded.
