TENSION ROCKS BALANGA/BILLIRI APC PRIMARIES AS ASPIRANT RAISES ALARM OVER ALLEGED IRREGULARITIES
Political tension has erupted across the Balanga/Billiri Federal Constituency following widespread allegations of irregularities during the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026.
One of the APC aspirants for the House of Representatives seat, Hon. Alfred John Attajiri, has openly called on Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leadership of the APC, and relevant party stakeholders to immediately cancel the exercise, describing the entire process as questionable and lacking credibility.
According to Hon. Attajiri, what was expected to be a democratic and transparent primary election turned into confusion and disappointment in several wards across Billiri Local Government Area.
Speaking after monitoring reports from different polling areas, the aspirant alleged that no credible electoral process took place in many locations including Tudu, Todi, Tal, Tanglang, Baganje Kalmai, Ibnola, and other wards within the constituency.

“Something is fishy,” he reportedly stated while expressing deep concern over the conduct of the exercise.
Eyewitness accounts and reports gathered from party members revealed that many polling units remained inactive throughout the scheduled voting period. In several locations, party faithful reportedly waited for hours without seeing electoral officials, accredited observers, party agents, or recognized APC leadership representatives.
What many supporters anticipated to be a peaceful democratic exercise instead became scenes of uncertainty, large crowds, frustration, and confusion.
Residents and party supporters described the atmosphere as heartbreaking, especially for loyal APC members who had hoped to witness a transparent process capable of strengthening internal democracy within the party.
Hon. Attajiri insisted that the people of Balanga/Billiri deserve a free, fair, transparent, and credible primary election, not what he described as a compromised arrangement capable of undermining the will of party members.
He further called on the APC leadership at the state and national levels to urgently intervene and investigate the alleged irregularities before the situation escalates further.
“The voice of the people must not be silenced,” he emphasized.
The development has continued to generate reactions among party supporters and political observers, with many calling for calm while awaiting an official response from the APC leadership regarding the conduct of the primaries.
As of the time of filing this report, the APC leadership had not released an official statement concerning the allegations surrounding the Balanga/Billiri House of Representatives primary election.
