ASUU GIVES FEDERAL GOVERNMENT 21-DAY DEADLINE TO RESOLVE VARSITY FUNDING ISSUES

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a firm 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government of Nigeria, demanding urgent action on long-standing issues related to university funding and the overall quality of tertiary education in the country. The union emphasized that failure to resolve these issues within the given timeframe could lead to significant consequences, including potential disruptions in the academic calendar.

The key concerns outlined by ASUU revolve around the non-implementation of agreements previously reached between the union and the government. These agreements, which include critical funding for universities, have remained unfulfilled, contributing to the persistent underfunding of Nigerian institutions of higher learning.

ASUU’s National President stressed the dire need for the Federal Government to prioritize the improvement of infrastructure, payment of salaries, and the revitalization of the education sector. The union has been at the forefront of advocating for better educational standards, arguing that without adequate funding, universities cannot effectively fulfill their mandates.

ASUU warned that if the government continues to neglect these critical issues, the union will have no choice but to take drastic actions, which could include a nationwide strike, further crippling the education sector.

The union calls on the Federal Government to honor its commitments to educational development, ensuring that Nigerian universities are adequately equipped to compete on a global scale. This 21-day deadline marks a crucial moment in the ongoing struggle for educational reform in the country.
